MICHELE MESCIA

MR. MICHELE MESCIA

We didn’t prepare any questions for Michele Mescia, a tailor from Turin. We just wanted to just sit and listen, inside of his tailoring-house; he was the only one who needed to speak. I don’t mean just audible talk, but that of his materials and his work that shows that he is a master of his craft. Also, because there are too many words told about tailoring and elegance. So, what came out of it? From the photos there are no doubts: Michele Mescia is a true maestro. He never speaks of himself as being better than anyone and he doesn’t even allow himself to criticise the suit that I was wearing; just these two points demonstrates how he was superior to many others. He did, however, wish to speak of his own products, only bespoke and hand-made.

VINTAGE BOTTONS

The items you see in the photos speak for themselves. I would add that those garments created by an elegant mind with skilled hands, are so elegant as to transform whoever wears them. The knowledge of Maestro Mescia is confirmed by the number of fittings: one. Not two, or three, or four fittings. This demonstrates the perfect knowledge of his profession that gives security to his customers. The shop is a pleasant place full of history and full of fabrics, another great passion of his. This is another guarantee for the customer, that he will surely find more fabrics in his tailoring-house than in a fabric store. What does this mean? That he can wear a fabric that best represents him without having to limit his choice according to what is available; that would mean limiting one’s inner and outer self.

Michele Mescia’s passion for fabrics is clear. He was excited to show me unique fabrics, of extremely high quality, with perhaps now unobtainable combinations of colour. The proportions of his jackets are proportionate to the person who will wear it; nothing seen within his tailoring-house is exaggerated or vulgar. On the wall we noticed the customer file: there are many names of most important entrepreneurs and journalists in Italy. However, even in this case Mescia was a gentleman because he did not brag about it, and he even said that he doesn’t do much publicity. So, Mescia’s cut is composed, proportioned, never trivial, just simply comfortably elegant.
